Once you graduate with a college degree, you search for a place where you can implement the knowledge you’ve gained. Therefore, you move on in search of internships or jobs that matches your interest. Similarly, I looked around for a place where I can actually learn and implement the programming skills that I hold; that’s when I landed up in bootcamp at Jyaasa. Jyaasa is an IT(Information Technology) company which develops web and mobile software using technologies such as Ruby, Rails,React, etc which is located in Gusinghal, Lalitpur. In this blog I’m going to explain about the days that were spent in the bootcamp.

Programming is like any other sport. You might know the rules but you have to play to learn.

How to apply?

Programming bootcamps are frequently organized by Jyaasa which usually last for eight weeks. You can find the opening on official website of Jyaasa and can apply by sending CV(Curriculum Vitae) when the requirements are matched. The basic prerequisite to apply are listed below :-

  • Knowledge of basic Linux commands
  • Basic knowledge of how web applications work
  • Basic knowledge of object oriented programming, data structure and algorithm
  • Basic knowledge of HTML(Hyper Text Markup Language), CSS(Cascading Style Sheets), JavaScript, database
  • Basic knowledge of GIT

Curriculum

The course consists of 3Rs; Ruby, Rails and React under prespecified curriculum. The course seemed intense to me for the time of bootcamp that was allocated. It was a rigorous training program to generate a full stack software engineers. But as time passed and with the help of incredible mentors, we were able to complete it with less difficulties. A mentor for each topics(topics are listed below) was assigned. The curriculum of bootcamp are:-

  • Linux basic
  • VCS(Version Controlling System) and GIT
  • HTML and CSS
  • JavaScript
  • Ruby
  • Ruby on Rails
  • React.js
  • React on Rails

Always code as if the guy who ends up maintaining your code will be a violent psychopath who knows where you live.

Guest lectures

One of the best part of bootcamp I felt was the feature of guest lectures which was given by the experienced personnel from within and outside the company. You get an opportunity to know about what actually is going on in the market, get chance to improve your soft skills such as communicating properly, moving out of your comfort zone, learning how to learn, etc.

Milestone projects

After completion of each topic, we would have to submit a projects where we apply the stuffs we’ve learned. It was a good practice as we could implement and master the knowledge we’ve acquired. Again, mentors were always ready to guide us. The thing that frightened all the trainees was getting eliminated. Yes you heard it right!! Eliminated!! . You would get eliminated from the bootcamp if you failed to complete the provided task. But you don’t have to worry much about it, if you work hard, you are always appreciated. There were total of four milestone and you could sometimes choose the project to be submitted and sometimes should complete the provided project. How can I forget the refreshments after each milestones. You get good foods and feedback after the rigorous work you’ve done to demonstrate the project.

If you don’t have fun while programming then you’ll probably change your job.

Ask questions

You’re an intern, you aren’t supposed to know everything. Your supervisor and mentors love when you’re curious and have questions. They’d rather have you ask and do it right than guess and mess the whole thing up completely. Don’t be shy.

Make new friends

One of the reasons I really enjoyed the bootcamp here was because I had some pretty awesome people to spend it with. It was both enjoyable and knowledgeable to be with them.In this nine weeks, we’ve made a lot of good memories, shared lessons and stories with each other.
