Great introduction article! I just stumble on a few things:
- Researchers who conduct surveys have done this technique for years. When it’s impossible to obtain a statistics of a population, they randomly select people to obtain the statistics of that sample to estimate for the population’s statistics. So why is this new? Why is it named after the gambling event?
- Is active sampling (or semi-supervised learning) a type of MC method?
- Could you introduce introductory articles demonstrating the performance and limitation of different MC methods? I heard about MCMC the most, but I’d like to have a comprehensive picture.
