Means TV FAQ
ABOUT MEANS TV
What is it?
Means TV is an anti-capitalist on-demand digital streaming platform with original TV shows and movies spanning a variety of genres and formats, from talk shows, documentaries, sitcoms, stand-up comedy to adult animation, dramas and more.
All of our content seeks to uplift working people and showcase topics that affect us all, but that corporate media often neglect.
Means TV will feature your favorite Leftist influencers, comedians, writers, organizers, and voices.
We aim to create a long-standing, centralized, worker-owned media infrastructure that reflects and empowers the working class.
Film is the most powerful tool we have for imagining different worlds.
But right now, almost all movies and TV shows are made by a handful of rich guys and corporations who want to keep things the way they are.
If working people owned the means of film and TV production and distribution instead, entertainment would not only be better, funnier, and more interesting, but would also reflect much more closely the realities of living as a working class person in the United States.
We make entertainment for the working class, free from the corruption of shareholders and advertisers that drive the majority of our media.
Means TV is for all of us.
How do I get it?
Means TV will be a subscription-based, on-demand digital streaming platform (like Netflix, HBO GO, etc) available in late 2019.
Unlike those other sites, Means TV won’t be funded through billions of dollars in debt securities or cash flow from international multimedia conglomerates.
It’ll be funded the old-fashioned way: by viewers like you.
If you’re a subscriber, you’ll be able to access the Means TV app on devices like Apple TV, Roku, and Chromecast as well as on your mobile ios or Android devices.
We’re also committed to combatting the racist, and violent rhetoric espoused by alt-right on Youtube. Means TV will always put out free and shortened premium content on Youtube for general audiences to engage and reach new viewers. As a subscriber, you’re supporting us in the Youtube wars as well and 12-year olds across the world will thank you someday.
Bread + Roses Fundraiser
Starting March 21, we’ll be releasing 10 weeks of free content — explainers and entertainment on topics like capitalism, eco-socialism, imperialism, feminism, and health justice — to give you an idea of what you can expect from Means TV.
Think of it as YouTube without the alt-right, Hulu without ads, HBO without Crashing.
How can I support?
- Donate to our Bread + Roses fundraiser to help us fund the first year of TV shows and films. Our goal is to raise $500,000. Donate now.
- Pre-subscribe to Means TV now to be the first to access the platform when it launches. You won’t be charged until the platform launches. A $10 monthly subscription gets you unlimited access to everything on Means TV. No advertisers, no commercials, no product placements, no contract, no cancellation fees, no commitment. You have the option to pre-subscribe when you make a donation here.
Donations made through our fundraiser are not tax deductible.
Where does fundraised and subscription money go?
This is how we make the content that you like. It’s like kickstarting a whole bunch of shows at once.
All of the funds raised and monthly subscriptions will go toward creating entertainment and building the digital and physical infrastructure for Means TV.
Here are some examples of the kind of content you can expect on Means TV:
- Animated family comedy
- Animated sci-fi comedy

Will Means TV be available in other countries and languages?
Yes! Our website meets European privacy guidelines as well as US privacy guidelines so we first recommend international viewers try viewing our content on our website means.media.
We also will be posting all of our videos on youtube which is available in many countries. We’ll be working to upload transcriptions in languages other than English to youtube for international viewers as well.
Right now, most of our content is in English, but we seek to expand that as we work with more international filmmakers.
We will have subtitles and dubbing available on the full platform in as many languages as we can. Feel free to reach out with any other questions!
When will the platform launch?
Our goal is to launch the platform at the end of 2019.
