THE BLOGGER’S ULTIMATE GUIDE TO WAKELET.

It is no secret that Wakelet is a blogger’s friend. I’ve been preaching about Wakelet basically since day one and that’s because it is a massively effective platform where bloggers can organise & curate great links and their blogs into collections. Personally, I found out about the wonders of Wakelet by accident.

And now, because there is plenty of Wakelet love to go around, I am going to be sharing my best Wakelet secrets with you.

THE BASICS.

Before we dive into the advanced stuff, lets start laying down the basics. If you’re here, I’m guessing you’re a blogger, which means you have a website. Great!

  • First things first, you need to set up a profile on Wakelet. This step is non-negotiable and do not pass go without doing this first. This shouldn’t be hard! Add a branded image of yourself (hopefully the one that you’re using across all social media!) and fill out who you are and what you’re doing. Also add all your links (your blog and social links) Here is mine, if you’re feeling stuck:
  • Create your first wake. This is another important step! You only want to have wakes that you will be active on and that help build your brand. If you won’t be using them regularly, either delete them or make them private! Here is a video on how to create your first Wake.
  • Organise your wakes. Group them together by topic, and put your most popular topics first.

THE WAKES.

So it’s important that you are curating quality content to your wakes. You only want to add content that you think are going to get a lot of engagement with, and potentially show up in the top picks feed on Wakelet. I’ll get further into detail about “good” wakes below!

Make the wake visual!

Whenever I see a great wake which has poor or no images, my heart hurts for them a little bit. If you are using images on your blog make sure you add them to your Wakes.

Wakelet is a visual platform, but it’s also a platform people mindlessly scroll through. You want to take up as much Wakelet real estate as possible in order to catch attention!

Only add helpful content to your Wakes.

Sometimes when I’m curating I’m tempted to just add every relevant thing I see to my Wake throwing caution to the wind. Don’t do that. Now when I’m curating I try to curate from trusted sources or I’ll check where the content leads before adding to my Wake. I want my followers to trust that I’m only curating gold so that they are more likely to engage! The Wakes can be a collection of your different blog subjects or they can be items to support your Wakes. An example of Wakes on blog subjects here by The Lady Sybil.

My top 10 Wake tips:

Use great images

Use different social media content

Use notes

Use formatting in notes

Check out Discover Wakelet

Use video

Use the browser extension

Use the embedding feature (this is currently not available on wordpress blogs that don’t support iframes)

Use the re-order items feature in your wake

Share your wakes!

ALL ABOUT CURATING.

Curate on brand!

One of the most important things you can do is niche down your account. If you’re blogging about food but curating about fashion, and workouts, and motivation, and food; your audience is going to be confused. Above I mentioned deleting irrelevant boards or making them private.

Create and add to your Wakes a lot.

And I mean a ton. At least 10 items per day, but more is better. These can be pulled across to different wakes.

Use Wakelet as an ideas board for your blog.

And add all your links here first. It’s a great place for ideating before your work on a blog.

GO FORTH, YOU WAKELET ROCKSTAR, YOU.

Once you get everything set up and fall into your rhythm, you get a fantastic return for the time invested. I’d say I spend about 10 minutes on Wakelet a day.
