Using WCF SOAP Services in .Net Core

This post is about how to using WCF Services in .Net Core, since there is no longer support to add web reference. Microsoft introduced the WCF Connected services preview to generate the SOAP service references for applications that are using .NET Core.

First you have to install the WCF Connected Service extension from Tool -> Extensions and Updates option. Search for “WCF Connected Service” and download.

Once installation completed successfully, you can add service reference by right clicking the references node and click on Add Connected Service option.

The Add Connected service dialog appears where you can select WCF Service — Preview option.

Finally, you can specify the service URL and add WCF Soap Service reference in your project. Then you can create instances of the WCF client types generated by the tool and communicate with your web service.
