Task Analysis: Painting a Room

Paint Research

Task Analysis:

Task analysis is the process of learning about ordinary users by observing them in action to understand in detail how they perform their tasks and achieve their intended goals. (usability.gov)

Task Analysis Mapping is useful to see into a user experience. For example the Painting a Room project. It how’s how each individual will solve a task with the same end results in many ways. For example my father is a contractor so a lot of my research was about forgotten information he taught me and cost since prices have changed over time. Also the maximum amount of time used was spent on research so money wouldn’t be wasted. I also showed the conversion between the landlord tenant and roommates. I had them follow how I would want them to react but this is an important part because the landlord could have simply said no. Or the roommates couldn’t agree on a color. Or the sample didn’t dry the undertone you wanted. This is all part of the user’s experience, and it is shown with Task Analysis Mapping.

Tasks analysis helps identify the tasks that your website and applications must support and can also help you refine or re-define your site’s navigation or search by determining the appropriate content scope. (usability.gov)
