NASH82: What to pack

NASH82 is quickly approaching, so here’s a list of what to pack in case you need to do some last-minute shopping.

File The Ubyssey

Warm clothes

Vancouver in January is positively balmy in comparison to other places in the country, but don’t let this fool you into dressing too lightly. Bring some warm clothes — a good coat, scarf and toque should do the trick!

Waterproof outerwear + shoes

The downside to having a warmer winter is that it rains a lot. Personally, I’m too lazy to be carrying around and keeping watch over a good umbrella, so a sturdy rain jacket and waterproof shoes are always more recommended.

Dressy clothes

We like to get a little fancy for our JHM award gala on January 11, so bring something dressier for the occasion. You don’t have to wear a full length gown or tux, but more power to you if you want to.

For the daytime workshops and first two dinners, the dress code gears toward more smart/business casual.

Phone and/or computer

This really goes without saying, but having them handy is a great way to engage in NASH discourse (tag #NASH82 at end of your tweets!), take notes, and exchange contact info with other attendees and industry pros.

Also don’t forget to bring their chargers, and even better if they are portable!

Notebook + pens

Handwriting workshop notes just hits different.

Swags from your paper

Bring the latest edition of your paper’s print issue or one that you’re most proud of, as well as any other swags from your paper. We’ll have a table to showcase them all.

Other essentials

  • Your ID cards + health card
  • Debit/credit + some cash
  • Toiletries
  • Underwear + socks
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Business cards

Let us know if we miss anything and we’ll add it to the list. Have fun packing!
