Introduction

In this article, we will focus on discovering entities to Oracle Infrastructure monitoring of the Oracle Database server stack components for the targets which already agents installed. After adding the components to the OMC then we will enable the license for all the added entities for infra monitoring and finally we will review configuration also monitoring the targets from the flashy OMC console. In detail, we will see discovering entities for the below Oracle Components

  • Oracle Clusterware
  • ASM/ASM Listener
  • Reviewing the configuration
  • Monitoring the targets

Discovering Oracle Clusterware entity from OMC

Back to Basics: In Enterprise Manager initially we will install the agent on the target server and then we will discover manually and necessary changes to the configuration of the targets. Similarly, we’ve installed the agent in the earlier article and in this article, we will discover entities of the target and the components of the target and in this example, we will discover entities of Oracle stack. Now we will add the entity of Oracle Clusterware.

Access to Oracle management Console as per the navigation “Administration → Discovery”

Navigation to Discovery
Click on Add Entity

In the Add Entity form, need to fill all the entries required to add entity for Oracle Clusterware component for the below fields.

  • Entity Type
  • Entity Name
  • CRS Home Path
  • SCAN Name
  • Cluster Name
  • Port
  • Cloud Agent → select from the drop-down list
  • Job Name
  • License Edition
Adding entity for the Oracle Clusterware

After filling all the mandatory fields, submit by clicking “Add Entity”.

Entity Confirmation

After submitting the request, we can view the status of the Job.

Job Submitted
Job Completed

After completion of the job we can see the status as “Completed”. Now target should able to send the analytical data for specific to this component — Oracle Clusterware and can be monitored as below.

The entity was added to OMC

The Good part is, After the addition of the Oracle Clusterware we can see all the members of the cluster and also various options from OMC in terms of configuration or performance.

Adding an Entity for Automatic Storage Management

In this section, we will add ASM entity into the Oracle Management Cloud to Monitor the ASM instances, Disk groups, and related information. The add entity form is the same for all the components but the only difference is to select the appropriate entity type.

We need to fill the below details to complete the entity.

  • Entity Type
  • Entity Name
  • Entity Display Name
  • Machine Name
  • Host Name
  • Port
  • SID
  • Protocol
  • Oracle Home Path
  • Cloud Agent
  • Job Name
  • Username/Password/Role
  • License Edition

After completing all the fields, now we can submit the entity to be added.

After submission, the Job name will be allocated to monitor or track the status.

Job Completed for the ASM entity

Automatic Storage Management (ASM) entity was successfully added to Oracle infrastructure monitoring.

Adding an Entity of Oracle Database Cluster Listener

So far, we have added entities of cluster ware and ASM, now we will add the Cluster listener entity to OMC. The procedure again same and well known so far from our above practices.

  • Entity Type
  • Entity Name
  • CRS Home
  • Host Name
  • Alias
  • Cloud Agent
  • Job name
  • License Edition

Complete all the fields as per the below image and proceed to click “Add Entry”.

Add Entity for Oracle ASM Listener

After submitting job we can monitor the status of the Job.

Job Submitted for Oracle ASM Listener Entity

Upon completion and we can view the status, configuration and various other metrics and results from the Oracle management cloud console.

Enabling Licenses for the Entities

So far, we have added the entities for the Clusterware, listener and etc. until at this point the targets were just added but they were not enabled because after adding each entity we need to enable the license. In a licensing option, we can see three choices

  • None — Disabled entities
  • Enterprise Edition — License edition
  • Standard Edition — License edition

Now we will enable the RAC hosts for the continuous monitoring of the infrastructure.

The navigation path is different than “Add Entry”, we have to follow navigation from Oracle management cloud as “Administration →Entity Configuration → Licensing”

Navigate to Entity Configuration

In the below image select all the entities which were discovered in our practices and then we will enable monitoring.

Click on Entities (1 Out of 7)

It will list the number of entities registered with OMC, Select the required entities to be enabled.

Entities to be enabled

After selecting the required targets for the monitoring, now we can see all the targets status from the entities section with the beautiful graphical view with the various options for friendly infrastructure monitoring.

We will see more details in the next article “Adding Oracle RAC Database Entity to OMC and enabling of licenses” — Soon we will link the article URL.

All the Entities Status from the OMC

Summary

We’ve seen how to add the entities of Oracle Stack (Clusterware, Listeners) to the OMC for the better infrastructure monitoring, troubleshooting with easy clicks from the interface with the step by step instructions including how to enable licenses for continuous monitoring.
