Have you ever found yourself in a tricky situation with a roommate? Do you ever feel like you do more household chores than other people that live with you? Have you ever asked your roommate to buy milk and they forgot it?

Living Share is your app. It helps you keep track of tasks and calendars of each one of the members of the household in an easy and effective way.

Read below to learn more about how we started.

Background

It all started with understanding how people optimize their time between work and day-to-day tasks. Interviews were conducted to understand people’s choices, what apps they used and how they organized themselves. At one point, there were even ideas on how teenagers could better communicate with parents.

Final Idea

With more ideation and brainstorming, focus was shifted to understanding the dynamic of households.

How do people divide their tasks? How do they communicate what needs to be done? How do they inform someone of plans?

We wanted something better than the classic notes on the fridge.

Voilà — Living Share was starting to be formed.

Creating change

We had 3 main goals:

1) Create a shared calendar so all house members would be aware of any important events

2) Clearly divide household tasks: who is assigned to each task and its completion status

3) Facilitate communication between roommates

Prototypes were created and tested as weeks went by. Heuristic evaluation was a critical part of the process — the help of other designers facilitated the development of the product.

More and more tests, more and more designs.

In person testing, online testing and hours and hours re-working and re-designing the application.

Solution

Living Share has received great feedback on how easy it is. The interface was designed to uncomplicate users’ lives.

Just by opening the app, users can right away see what is happening and what they have to do at home.

The app is constantly changing and being further developed. More to come!
