How to increase traffic to your website?

--

27,000,000 pieces of content are shared everyday.

This means it’s hard to stand out in all the noise. So what’s the way around this noise?

The key is consistent content releases, coupled with consistent quality.

A good content strategy will focus on the quality and details in the content you are posting, but will also look at strategies that will support and increase the reach of that content. To get to know more about strategies behind powerful content, read my Medium post on why content is king.

That being said, here are a few absolute essentials you should choose, to increase traffic to your website.

Share. Like. Retweet. Repeat.

The internet is amazing! Anyone can become famous with the right strategy. Whenever you post something to your blog, are you letting your followers know, on social media? When you publish a new article to your blog page or website — let your followers know on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram or Quora. Even if you have some overlap of followers on each channel, by sharing it on a variety of platforms, you increase your chances of being noticed.

Don’t let your blog post die alone.

Creating content is an extensive process: coming up with an idea, researching it, writing the content, and then promoting it. It takes a lot of time and involves different individuals with different fields of expertise at every stage. A lot of people mistake the publishing of content as the final step — but that’s not fair to your content. Posting your content only on one channel is a surefire way of ensuring it doesn’t reach as many people and the probability of it making a difference will indeed be very low.

Here’s an in-depth insight into how you can repurpose content, to make sure it reaches audiences on a wide variety of platforms. Remember to ask yourself what kind of content your audience would like to read on each platform, and repurpose accordingly!

The keywords to the kingdom.
Optimising your content with the right keywords is a great way to ensure you’re getting traffic. But have you put yourself in the shoes of your user? I recently wrote an article on Medium about SEO and user intent in which I discuss how your content should not be fuelled by keywords but by customer queries and concerns.

Timing matters.

When do you post on Facebook? Twitter? Are you sure your users are online when you are?

Timing is everything.

You wouldn’t call someone in the middle of the night, so why would you post your content then? Facebook posts are best published between 1 and 4pm, late into the week and on the weekends, while Twitter posts do better at night. Consumer promotions sent via email are most likely to be opened after dinner. Schedule your content using the right methods to get your business the best coverage.

Google is a good friend.
Did you know that 60% of clicks go to the top links in google search? Invest in Google AdWords to get your website to the top of the search engine and enhance your visibility.

These are the most important pointers for marketing your business in today’s cutthroat online environment. Use these to up your marketing game!

If you want to know how else to increase traffic to your website, read this post: How can I increase traffic on my website? I write quite often about specific marketing (especially content marketing) concerns, and you may find some answers in these links, so give them a read!
