Fantastic post! I lead a company of 7 incredible folks who all have titles but I’ve experienced many of the issues you’ve outlined over the years so I think we may just come together and discuss a shift into something similar to what you are proposing.
The one challenge i’d like clarity on is around the concept of “de-titling”. Short of dismissal, I don’t see a way around it but perhaps that’s the point. I’ve had a couple instances over the years where a “Lead” wasn’t cut out for it but they we’re incredible IC’s. I’m sure your company has experienced something similar. How is it handled? Do you retrain and dismiss if they can’t lead effectively? Do you allow them to step back into their former role?
