The Roots Of The Trump Campaign: Fascism & White Supremacy

A time when Black men were lynched and hung from the poplar trees. That is the root of his words and the base of his popularity.
Donald J. Trump’s threats to silence dissenters, silence media criticism, his demonization of people of color, of Muslims, his sexist and misogynistic views of women, all of that is the makings of Fascism. In modern history, whenever Fascism has gone quietly unopposed it hasn’t work out very well. Thus when we see these violent clashes with protestors at his rallies we must take into context that his campaign rhetoric evokes the era of a Jim Crow America. A time when Black men were lynched and hung from the poplar trees. That is the root of his words and the base of his popularity. To expect his platform of bigotry to be neatly and peacefully opposed is a fools errand.
Today in a speech in Redding, California he referred to a Black male supporter as, “his African American,” as in ownership. This was a very telling choice of words, as his campaign slogan to Make America “Great Again,” begs the question of when? Based on his rhetoric and the make-up of his supporters it seems like 1955 is about the right year.
