Fun fact: Oversized handbags come with black holes

Oversized handbags are in again, and women everywhere are rejoicing. Everywhere we go, we’re seeing women hauling totes, shoppers, hobos and bucket bags, all roomy enough to conceal a mini-keg in case a party should need to get started. They’re stylish, they’re fun, and oh heavens yes, they are big enough to hold everything we should ever possibly need to get us through the day.

Why limit yourself to just one lipstick shade, when there’s plenty of room for your whole cosmetic kit? You’ll never be bored in a waiting room when you can bring along your Kindle or favorite book. Got a meeting? Don’t forget your desktop planner and tablet! Chance of rain? Toss in an umbrella! Got a baby? Leave the diaper bag at home and carry it all in your purse.

For women with stuff — and that’s all of us — this era of trendy oversized handbags is a heady time indeed. But there’s just one problem: When so much stuff fits, a huge purse can magically transform into a black hole, capable of disappearing your keys or pen or phone at the very moment you need them most.

If you ever find yourself standing in a parking lot or doorway, balancing a cluster of shopping bags while you’re in up to your armpit digging for your keys, you may think back to the day you first laid eyes on that big, beautiful bag and question your purchasing choices. But trust us, my friend, you didn’t buy the wrong purse. You just skipped the most essential part of the giant-purse-buying process: Also buying a purse organizer.

The oversized purse trend waxes and wanes, but the trend is not just driven by what the designers are showing on the runways. It’s also about women’s tolerance level for frustration. After months spent searching for things inside a portable cavern of leather, most of us have had quite enough, thank you, and go shopping for a micro-purse so we can find things again.

A purse organizer is like a micro-purse that fits inside a larger bag, and a good one works like a filing cabinet for your stuff, so you can find things easily no matter how colossal your bag may be. But a poorly designed purse organizer that doesn’t have the compartments you actually need, or that falls apart in a few months, is as frustrating as not having an organizer at all.

What we all really need is a durable, high-quality purse organizer that fits not just our purses and our stuff, but our lives. One that’s flexible enough to manage all the items we use every day, but that can also expand to fit all the different roles that women play, whether we’re moms, entrepreneurs, pet owners, or just want to look and feel our best when on the go. A purse organizer also makes it wonderfully easy to transition between bags whenever you feel like it. If you’re going out for the evening and your casual daytime tote won’t work with your little black dress, just take out your filled-up organizer and move it to your dressier bag. You won’t keep your date or friends waiting, and you’re more likely to end up actually using your entire purse collection instead of letting it gather dust in your closet.

If you haven’t yet jumped on the oversized handbags trend, it’s time to go shopping for a tote that can tote it all. Just don’t forget that shopping this outsize trend is a two-step process: pick your purse, but don’t forget your PurseSee.
