WHY I LOVE CYNTHIA ERIVO

Dude. This blog is long overdue. Living in a society where there are not too many great role models and people to look up to, God still makes a way. One person who I have always seen grow on social media and in the creative industry is Cynthia Erivo. Without doubt she is one of the strongest women to of come out of London and make such a magnificent impact in the musical theatre scene.

The Queen Herself in Action

I truly believe when you speak things over your life it shall come to pass. A really really long time ago Cynthia was invited to my older sister’s school in West London to see their black history month performance and share some words of wisdom. I was around 13 or 14 years old at the time but as she spoke to the crowd I froze to hear her speak. She questioned all the young females in the room (as it was an all girls school) “Who wants to go in the creative industry?”. And knowing me I was the first person to put my hands in the air. A lot of people around me felt rather timid about confessing their love for this industry due to the views that had been shared to them about it. A lot of parents even started to giggle underneath their breath (even mine) about the wise choice. After receiving feedback from the audience she stood firmly in front of everybody and said “You can do it!”. Speaking briefly about a musical she was later going to do in New York she told us she has full faith in herself to do whatever she wants to do and will achieve her goals of being an actress and singer. Me and my sister got to speak to her after. And it was truly a great blessing.

After she finished talking her words rang in my ear. I couldn’t stop meditating on what said. There was just something about believing in somebody you don’t even know, that struck me the most. Taking the time out to motivate a bunch of young people is something I don’t take lightly. Her speaking to me helped me truly understand what I want to do when I’m older.

Cynthia has now gone on to do a bunch of great things. And even though she don’t know me. I am truly proud of you. Due to the simple fact you held onto you dreams and goals. Went out of your way to develop new skills and build relationships with people who have helped you inspire young girls like me.

When I see her doing things like The Colour Purple, Beyond The Light’s Soundtrack and I Can’t Sing it really sets full to my fire.

You’re a Star! Thank you for being you, Cynthia Erivo.
