Alone in the Crowd

Part of Society,
Yet I am myself.
Alone in a Crowd,
’Cause I am myself.
While my clock is ticking away.

Screaming to get out of
What is my life.
Do I really have a say in
What is my life?
Who are they to force their rules on me?

People change the laws and leave no
room for individuality.
Our instincts keep us from the road to
paradise.
Where is happiness? It costs more but you
get what you pay for
Will anyone pay the price?

Our escapes become our prisons
And we’re helpless except to give way
I suppose I’ll grin and bear it
While my dreams of happiness fade away.

(Teenage angst, circa 1993)
