ALODOKTER RAISES $2.5M SERIES A FINANCING LED BY GOLDEN GATE VENTURES
Alodokter (alodokter.com) announced today that it has closed its Series A funding led by Singapore based Golden Gate Ventures with participation from 500 startups and Singapore entrepreneur Lim Dershing. This is Alodokter’s second funding following its seed funding in April 2015. Golden Gate Ventures, 500 Startups and Lim Dershing were also investors in Alodokter’s seed round.
Founded in July 2014, Alodokter is the leading health information website in Indonesia with 8 million unique monthly visitors. Alodokter boasts thousands of articles about health, well-being and family and over 100,000 patient questions answered by its 100+ doctors. “We see a strong trend among patients in South-East Asian towards digital health. They are looking more and more for health information online before and after going to the doctor and also for prevention purposes. We firmly believe that providing reliable and easy-to-understand health information helps families take better decisions about their health”, says Nathanael Faibis, CEO and founder of Alodokter.com.
Alodokter experienced impressive growth during the past year. It has grown its user base by 700% since its seed round from 1 million to 8 million monthly users. Over the last two years, Alodokter became the clear Indonesian leader in a highly competitive digital health market. “Health information reliability is in the DNA of the company. This is the team’s main focus. Over the last two years, we have built a strong image of medical expertise among patients and health professionals in Indonesia. We think that this is the primary reason for the strong growth we have experienced so far.”Alodokter gets most of its revenue from premium advertising working with health-related brands.
This year, Alodokter will use its expertise to expand to other countries in South East Asia. The company aims at replicating its model and provide health information in local languages. “I have been really impressed by the impact of Alodokter in Indonesia, helping hundreds of thousands of patients every day. We know that it is often challenging for non-English speakers to find reliable health information online. We want to solve that problem.” Says Daniel Stan, Ex-VP in Lazada Indonesia, who just joined Alodokter to lead their international expansion in the region.
Alodokter successfully launched its mobile app in March of this year in Indonesia. The mobile app enables its users to chat with general practitioners for free within minutes. Doctors already answers over 1000 patients’ questions per day. The app is really well received by Indonesian patients with an average rating of 4.5 in the Playstore. “We believe that chat is the next big thing for digital health. With a mix of AI and real doctor interaction, we can seamlessly bring the right piece information to our users. Soon, patients will expect highly personalized health information instantly. We are working hard to provide them with it.” Says Nathanael.
