The Pain Hurts

It seams like such a long road back to where I was 6 months ago with my running. But first; the left knee has to heal, which is still an uncertain mystery…

Its been:
3 Weeks of no workouts at all
8 Weeks of no running
14 Weeks of cross training

There is inflammation on the out side of the knee joint. Now that I’m back in Australia, I am working with a Physio, as everything I have tried is obviously not working and we may look at getting an MRI scan in the next week depending on my progress.

I know all the runners out there will understand what I am feeling when I say.

I am unable to do what I love

The tough part is I had created a healthy habit with a positive impact on my mind, body and soul. Increased awareness, energy and relaxed state of mind are what I typical enjoy from running; for the non runners.

Where did it start?
Early January I was getting early signs of what I thought was ITB pain.
See my previous experiences with ITB pain was I would simple reduce training slightly, increase foam rolling and everything would be fine. However this time it wasn’t and it kept getting worse, until mid February where I knew something was different.

What was the cause?
I feel it was from a change in shoes, running surfaces, possible colder environment, cross county racing and not listening to my body.

What did I learn?
That each circumstance in life no matter how similar they seem can have a different outcome.

What would I do different?
Let the body rest and recover, any kind of soreness or pain is the body telling me it needs to recover.
