Local Teenager Questions California Drought

4S RANCH, CA — After days of intense rain, 16-year old Ryan Palmer began to question the validity of the California state drought. Palmer began a grassroots campaign to “uncover the truth” by posting the following on his personal Twitter account: “Since it’s raining, does this mean we are no longer in a drought? Haha”. Since the tweet was originally posted, it has received four favorites and one retweet.
Last week, Hurricane Dolores continued to move west of Baja California, sending a surge of deep tropical moisture up the Gulf of California into parts of the Desert Southwest. Los Angeles, San Diego and over a dozen other California cities set all-time rainfall records for the month of July due to the unprecedented mid-summer rainfall.
Palmer is relentless in his search for answers. “Something just doesn’t seem right”, he questioned during press time, “After all that rain, it’s hard to believe we’re still low on water. I think about this a lot when I take my daily 20 minute shower”.
California currently faces one of its worst droughts in state history. In January 2015, Governor Jerry Brown declared a drought State of Emergency and instructed state officials to take all necessary actions to prepare for water shortages. The state has been circulating Public Service Announcements for months, and municipal governments are passing legislation to ensure that businesses are only serving water upon request.
“This is probably just another government propaganda scheme” Palmer concluded. “I hope that Donald Trump wins next year so he can restore confidence in the American people ” he tweeted as a follow-up.
