“The Rock’s most successful catchphrase — ‘Can you smell what the Rock is cooking?’ — was introduced during last year’s Wrestlemania”

“The self titled ‘Most Electrifying Man in Sports Entertainment’ was known for his catchphrase ‘Can you smell what the Rock is cooking?’”

“The Network says, “Impact!” You’ll say, “Can you smell what the Rock is cooking?” And if you wouldn’t say that, you’re not a teenage boy…”

Alright, I’m one of those teenage boys from the 90s, and The Rock’s catchphrase for me has always been “Can you smell what the Rock is cooking?” I still belt it out on occasion while slaving over the stove frying up dinner.

“IF you smell what the Rock is cooking?” doesn’t even make sense as a standalone slogan. It sounds more like the first part of a two-part statement. Conducting a little research on the net, you’ll find the Rock NEVER said “CAN you smell…”

In my memory, The Rock initially had “Do you smell” in his intro song, but that got rejigged to “Can you smell” and the rest was theme music history.

The evidence on this one is overwhelming, with t-shirts, posters and a ton of articles all recalling the “Can you smell what the Rock is cooking” line.

Which one do you remember?
