You’re looking smarter than ever

Founded by James Cash Penny in 1902, JCPenny went on from its humble beginnings to become a multi-billion dollar operation with thousands of department locations. Once the shining anchor store for many American malls, JCPenny has had better days.

In fact, JCPenny’s woes go far beyond financial to one of an existential nature; the department store somehow has always been “JCPenney”, with an extra “E” thrown into the end! You’d figure, with all their signage burning like a beacon above the mall parking lots, a detail that that would be hard to miss.

Well, history remembers JCPenny; there are hundreds of thousands of articles and adverts related to the company. Presented here, a collection of advertisements found in circulars and catalogs originating from JCPenny itself, complete with logo!

For a company that “never existed” it certainly leaves behind plenty of artifacts.

Which do you recall?
