I would disagree with the author, and the commenter — though it may be a bit of a nitpick :).

A “retentioneer” is not a growth hacker. However, a “retentioneer” is also not not a growth hacker.

Instead, a retentioneer focuses on a subset of skills that a generalist growth hacker would focus on.
