As a self-management technique, one could look to the appeal of gossip as a leading indicator of job engagement. If I’m interested in this shit, then I’m probably unhappy, whatever story I might be selling to my conscious self. And if I’m not happy, then I’m probably not performing as I should. And my attitude is going to rub off on my team if it hasn’t already, which isn’t going to make turning around my performance any easier.
