Quitting Netflix, Working on Cool Things, Learning & the Monster Lens

Week 1 of the sharing my week challenge

Here’s the deal: I like sharing.
The challenge: Share what I worked on, thought about, and saw for the week. For the next 60 weeks.

What I Worked on:

I worked on a new website that, unfortunately, I can not share yet since it’s a surprise for someone that might read this.. BUT I still made progress on this project.

For the first time ever I decided to hire someone else to code this for me. I know my front end development skills are sub-par and there are a lot of complexities with this site. So why not.

What I Thought About:

How much I don’t need Netflix, ever

This has been something I’ve been thinking about for a long time. I feel like I get very caught up in the shows I watch and find myself thinking about them at random times. I feel like these shows have mostly turned into 40 hour movies that keep getting added onto. The characters totally change except for one but they keep going, adding another 40 hours.

So I’m going to stop watching Netflix.

The rare exceptions I would make are long, no-plan weekends where I’d watch a 20 hour movie (TV show season) then be done with it again.

Why video games are better for me than Netflix

The thing about video games is that they’re the only thing that makes me sit down for hours and listen to a book on tape. Every time I tell someone this they think I’m crazy. I don’t see how different it is from cooking and listening to a podcast. You need to focus on the cooking but just a tiny bit. You follow directions and do things, sometimes wait around — just like a video game (specifically similar to the games I like: Tomb Raider, Far Cry, Batman, things like that).

Meditation is awesome and Scheduling is cool

I’ve always been a believer that meditation is strange and unnecessary. (some) people say that it’s basically just thinking for 10–20 minutes. I think all the time… so why do I need to “meditate”.

But I did it, and it’s really really nice. So now I’m doing it twice a day but I’m calling it “Thinking” instead of “Meditating” because I’m a rebel.

Oh and I have a schedule I’m pumped about. This is my life (currently):

Shoes should fit your feet.

Surprise! Who would’ve guessed. I’ve been using biking shoes that are 5 sizes too large for me.. but who I to complain about free? They are finally hurting my feet about 9 hours into riding (over a few months) so I’m getting new shoes. Thrilling stuff, I’m aware :)
