Neighbours

Through frosted windows, they pry with envy.

Their eyes feed in an insipid frenzy.

Piercing glances do well to slice my bread.

Blank expressions carved into every head.

Clones on a conveyor; layer over layer.

In daylight, I host their visual torment.

Come nightfall, I ponder their judgement.

Silent loathing fuels their gossip sessions.

Stained walls paint pictures of their expressions.

This space we may share, but this house mine to bear.
