While I agree with the points your article makes, I do have to concur with Tiffany on this one. That link looks too much like a button. Perhaps more accurately, it looks like what a designer _thinks_ is a clever design for a button. ;)

It creates a mental disconnect for me. On the one hand, I read the text “Sign up” and my brain thinks “OK, this is going to take me to another page where I’ll actually do stuff” but at the same time I look at the visual design and my brain thinks “This looks like a pretentious button.”
