Beware The Basement!

Baghead also known as The Basement is a 2023 Brit supernatural horror thriller mainly starring Freya Allen (Empire of the Apes, The Witcher), Ruby Barker (Bridgeton), and Anne Muller. Distributed by Shudder, the film is directed by Alberto Corredor, and it is about two women who interact with a demonic entity in a pub basement they do not understand. The main positive messages and themes shown in the film are coping with grief and trauma, the humanoid version of the supernatural Ouija board used to contact the deceased, and the shape-shifting entity being used vainly to communicate with the afterlife, as Allen and Barker learn the hard way, as do others in the movie. Iris and company portray courageousness, valoring determination, coping with the loss of loved ones, and unwisely contacting the afterlife with dire consequences dating back to ancient times.

The violence and scariness in the film include a male character being bashed to death with a chair, various vain and unwise attempts to contact the afterlife via Baghead the film’s namesake entity, deceased bodies, gorings, acts of dismemberment, suffocation, references to suicide, which one male character enacts sacrificially for the greater good, and a female character falling to her death. Some jump scares are present in the film as well. One male character ends up roasted to death. One use of the F-bomb is used as are other profane terms like the S-word. There is not much gender content involved but some characters consume booze and/or smoke cigs occasionally throughout the movie. It also includes medicinal narcotic use. For these reasons, I highly recommend “Baghead” to age groups from kids to adults that dare ENTER THE BASEMENT!
