Directive 8020, one of the five future gaming projects from SM Games of 2024, also the 2nd season opener of the Dark Pictures anthology series, has been updated by its info with rumors, theories, and updates.

The Prologue

Whether the prologue is to be set in the 1900s (1907) (per the memorial plaque as seen at the very beginning of The Devil in Me’s main events) or the 70s-90s, or even the 70s-60s, the game itself is mainly set in the near future, possibly between 2030 and 2040. For one thing, D8020 is set in not only the Cetus Galaxy, named after the namesake astral whale and star constellation in the nighttime skies, home to the exoplanet/moon, Tau Ceti F-7, but also aboard the SS Cassiopeia space vessel of the destroyed sea vessel’s same name from 1907. In fact, the prologue could entail two of its player characters (one of em mostly an NPC) being deliberately cast out into literal oblivion by NASA for them to cover up existing life beyond Earth. There could be foul play purposely enacted, whether it is the intentional ceasing of comms with Earth or any other type of deliberate sabotage. Aside from the prologue’s two player characters, there is no still doubt that the game’s main cast will consist of David Harbor (Gran Tarismo, Violent Night, Black Widow, Stranger Things), Jodie Comer, Ava Kolker (Sydney to the Max, Girl Meets World), Miya Cech (The Darkest Minds, Are You Afraid of the Dark), Ryan Reynolds (RIPD, Life, Pikachu), and most of all, Kristen Stewart (Snow White and the Huntsman, Catch the Kid, Charlie’s Angels). The game is to be not only inspired by space and cosmic films such as Life (2017), the Alien film series, Mission to Mars (2000), 2001: A Space Odyssey, and/or Gravity (2013) but also, HP Lovecraft’s Lovecraftian literary lore and the failed and non-existent Apollo 11–18 missions of the 60s-70s. Not to mention 2011’s Apollo 18. 2020’s Underwater remains no exception for this matter.

Main Characters

Varying by the prime player characters in the game, they will be each of their nationality and foreign heritages; Stewart (German), Cech (Chinese), Harbor (Russian/Soviet), Kolker and Reynolds (American), and Comer (Aussie/Brit). There shall also be AI involved onboard the space vessel, whether they are immobilized computer-like systems similar to HAL 9000 or a humanoid robotic android-based AI being (female, no doubt) (possibly portrayed by Power Rangers, Aladdin, and Terra Nova’s Naomi Scott). She also remains an NPC, unlike the 6 main characters in the game. Thus, following the example of both Until Dawn and The Quarry, D8020 will be the first title in the anthology series to have more than 5 player characters, prior to The Craven Man and Black Forest. Starting each title off with six. There maybe some treason upon the characters whether by AI or one of their own for motives maliciously unclear at the moment.

The crew consists of their various fields in occupation; one scientist from Russia, another from the US, two doctors from Germany and America, another from the UK or Australia, and one engineer from China/Asia. They will be tasked with finding life sustainable for humanity from beyond Earth through Tau Ceti F-7. So, the game, as said, might be set between the 2030s and 2040s. Or even either one fo those future decades (2).

2030 or 2040?

This compares directly to the bat-like Vampire alien monsters’ tech ahead of our time as seen in House of Ashes (2021), along with their parasitic vampire strain (off-world) dubbed the Ancient Ones Virus. In D8020, however, it is to be quite similar but compared to this with the newer alien threat as well as the purple and dark magenta/violet goo/gunk as seen in the game’s teaser attached to the end credits to The Devil in Me, similar but different from the yellow-orange goo-like fluid and/or the green moss-like substance also seen in the third game.

Because the game will be set in the near future, it will possibly foreshadow not only the main events and those of the prologue but also, the beginning of the game set either where the crew members emerge from hypersleep onboard or will prep to launch about some years ahead of the game’s prime events. When it comes to Tau Ceti F-7, most crucially, the planet (exoplanet/moon) has been seen in a teaser vid released on YouTube emitting radiant energized violet surges in its atmosphere as one of its ominous features, and we hear mosnter-like screechings in the background, similar to those of the Vampire aliens.

Stay tuned for more information on D8020 coming out later this yr. on PS5 and Xbox Series X. IN SPACE, NO ONE CAN HEAR YOU SCREAM!
