The Process of Learning English Is Like the Process of Designing Products
CCA offers students free mentor classes a week, which is beneficial to international students. My mentor is Grace, an undergraduate student who is majoring in Interaction Design. I gave her my draft of my Placemaking audio narrative, which is a recording of an experience narrative in Washington Park. Recording my narrative with the sounds of the environment is really helpful for my speaking. Hopefully, she can correct the draft for me.
A few hours later:
After the the meeting, I practiced my pronunciation by reading the sentences from my audio narrative. I truly realized this part has become the most interesting part of the process of learning English.
My Learning Process:
- Give an observation of the journey, take photos, record the sounds of the environment, then jot down the narratives.
2. Correct and revise and repeat the narratives. I also practice my pronunciation from repeating.
This is my audio narrative:
This recording is of North Beach from silence to noise. Natural sounds to artificial sounds.
We walked from the South to the North in this area. We experienced different sounds, then we mixed them together.
The first section consists of a bird melody. When we passed through the Washington Square, the first sound I encountered was the bird melody.
The toll of the bell from the church broke the silent atmosphere. The sound reminded me of my trip earlier to Washington Square where many tourists were talking and laughing. ( enjoying themselves)
We came across a sea lion playground. They seemed to be communicating with each other.
It seemed like they were communicating with each other. Many musicians were playing their instruments on the street.
3. Find out a suitable recording software to edit my recording. I recommended and leant the new software such as: Audacity , iMovie.
4. Have a fun learning experience
