The Happiness Tonic Recipe

Growing up my mother would always concoct different kinds of tonics, for sickness, hair growth, radiant skin, acne the list could go on. Naturally as children we did not appreciate or understand the goodness from these magical potions. We would secretly pour them into the house plants when she wasn’t looking. Now being older and a little wiser, I have come to realization the tonics were made from healing foods including the very famous Ashwagandha. Her recipes were simple, but yet powerful. Since we didn’t like the taste of the Ashwagandha she would always find a way to balance it with something else.

Ashwagandha (Indian Ginseng) is a favorite antioxidant in her recipes, she calls it The Happiness Tonic. It is known to relieve stress, harmonize your mind and body, help us concentrate better and most importantly give you energy.


1/2 Tea Spoon Sunpotion* Ashwagandha — Definitely the highest quality

1/2 cup Milk / Almond Milk

3/4 cup Water

1 Cinnamon Stick

3–5 Black Peppercorns

3–5 Cloves

Optional — 1/2 Teaspoon Turmeric / 2/3 crushed cardamom pods


Add black peppercorns, cloves, Ashwagandha to water and bring to a boil. Add the milk or almond milk until mild boil. Strain into a cup.
