WordPad will no longer be included in future Windows updates as it hasn’t been updated in years.

In the future, Microsoft will no longer update Wordpad, instead removing features from Windows updates. The recommendation of Microsoft Word in the future will provide a better user experience.

“WordPad is no longer being updated and will be removed in a future release of Windows,” reads a support note published by Microsoft. “We recommend Microsoft Word for rich text documents like .doc and .rtf and Windows Notepad for plain text documents like .txt.”

It seems that WordPad hasn’t received as much attention. After a slight redesign for Windows 8, the word processor hasn’t seen any major updates since Windows 7’s Ribbon user interface. In the future release of Windows, Microsoft plans to remove WordPad entirely. This would most likely be the AI-powered Windows 12 we’ll see in 2024.
