You are right to point out the difficulty in running a company like a dictatorship.
I do however want to underscore the need for leadership not being determined by the court of public opinion. The metric for guaging a leader should be company success, recent examples definitely call for education of the CEO maybe a refocus.

Issues with decoupling include
Trust — more a mindset change than org change.
Aligning incentives — this is a tech/Infra change
