My question is how can Israel be a Jewish state when half of its population is non Jewish?

That is the crux of the problem. The unilateral declaration of a Jewish state in a land where Jews, Arabs, Muslims and Christians have been living together for millennia.

This whole land area was the province of Palestine in the Ottoman Empire. It was in Muslim hands since 637 AD except one hundred years of Christian control.

There is no doubt that Jewish people were mistreated throughout history but that is not the fault of the people of Palestine. Indeed, the historical fact is that by and large the Jewish people were ‘protected’ in Muslim lands.

So, for 1300 years, there were non Jewish people living in Palestine, built their lives, businesses, livelihoods.

Then all of a sudden their lives were uprooted starting in 1885 and ending in 1948.

There is no problem if the Jewish people wanted to return.

But the problem is that the creation of the state of Israel was a ‘punishment’ meted out to Ottoman Empire by the British.

And in this process humanity suffered and a perpetual conflict was born. Unnecessarily.

PLO, Hamas, IDF, Mossad, Zionists; these are all the ill effects of this British curse of creating divisions throughout their dominions; Kashmir for example, between India and Pakistan.

So both sides need to calm down, think peace as the only path forward, come together.

One nation, one state, one people. Equal rights, equal citizens, one man one vote, secular law, freedom of religion, equal rights of return for all.
