300+ Games Like Wordle Now Exist — Find The Best Here
Updated: April 15, 2022
From 90 players in November to over a million per day in January, Wordle has quickly achieved cult status. It’s now a cozy part of our daily routine, as players wait for midnight every day with greedy anticipation.
Regular (read: addicted) players like myself have also kept our eyes peeled for Wordle spinoffs. Lewdle and Absurdle were some of the first. But people want more, and developers are delivering at dizzying speeds:
Multiplayer Wordle
WordleCup.io — A multiplayer Wordle where you guess words in real-time in a tournament. Race against the clock and earn the most points to win! Hosts can create private rooms and change the no. of rounds, the timer, and word length. Public rooms have these settings pre-decided, to allow quick games. You can also play unlimited solo games on wordlecup.io
Basic Wordle Spinoffs
Let’s call them the unofficial expansion packs.
Hello Wordl — Play unlimited Wordle. Now has a daily mode where you can guess once a day. Added in response to the NYT buying Wordle.
WordGuessr — A stripped down unlimited version. Wordle Unlimited does the same.
Custom Wordle — Set a custom word for others to guess.
Absurdle — An ‘adversarial’ Wordle spinoff. The game keeps changing itself to hide the answer.
Lewdle — An extremely popular NSFW remake.
Semantle — Find the secret word by typing in words/phrases that are as close as possible to the target’s meaning (i.e. a semantic neighbour). The game will tell you how close or far off your guess is on every try to guide you. You may not get it 100% right, as Semantle states there’s a limit (in degrees) of how close you can get. Powered by a Google neural network.
Dordle — Solve two target words at the same time. Hard, but not impossible.
Quordle — Find four words at the same time. Insanity.
Letterle — Try to guess just one letter…and tear your hair out in the process.
Sweardle — Self explanatory.
Evil Wordle — No default target word. With every guess, the game checks all 5-letter words that fit your guesses to decide a match pattern that prolongs your game.
Wordle in regional languages — Needs its own list, but this is a good starting point.
Themed/Ultra-Specific Wordle Spinoffs
Gets as niche as choir music and Aussie slang.
Heardle — Guess the song using small musical snippets.
Framed — Find the movie using iconic stills (frames) as your clues.
Redactle — This one’s a doozy. You’ll get a Wikipedia page with most of the words redacted (blacked out). Type in guesses to fill in the blanks, until you figure out the topic for the entire page.
Foodle — Guess the hidden food item.
BTS Wordle — Find words related to the boyband BTS. Has an army of followers ;)
Taylordle — Taylor Swift-themed Wordle. BECKY, SCARF…you get the drill.
Star Wordle — Find words from the Star Wars franchise.
Superdle — Based on the TV show Supernatural. Be still, my fangirl heart.
Queerdle — ‘The yassification of Wordle’, where you hunt for queer lingo.
Squirdle — AKA ‘Who’s That Pokémon?’ without the visual cue. Solve using category clues (generation, height, weight, etc.)
Lordle of the Rings — Find a word taken from the main text of LOTR.
Airportle — Guess the three-digit airport code.
Primel — Figure out the five-digit prime number.
Hogwartle — Yer’ a word nerd, Harry!
Dungleon — A no-text Wordle, based on 8-bit fantasy characters.
Wordawazzle — Wordle clone using Australian English words.
Byrdle — Guess choral music terms.
Moxie — Wordle spinoff based on a card game called Magic: The Gathering.
Educational Wordle Spinoffs
Where you learn things beyond vocabulary.
Worldle — My favourite version, where you guess a country using distance and directional clues. If you liked this, I recommend trying GeoScents.
Shaple — Guess the shape that matches a shifting patterned cube.
Nerdle — The target ‘word’ is a maths equation. Calculate wisely!
Digitle — A math puzzle where you have to arrange a series of numbers and operators to arrive at a target number.
That’s all for now.
I’ll keep updating this list whenever I find more unique Wordle spinoffs.
See ya!
