4 famous Hollywood studios that’ve collaborated with Indian Film Production Houses

In the last decade or so, the Hollywood film industry has begun to take notice of the Indian film industry, particularly Bollywood. The two film fraternities have jointly produced some of the most popular films. Indian A-list actors like Priyanka Chopra, Irrfan Khan and Deepika Padukone have successfully ventured into Hollywood, and Hollywood Studios have begun to back major A-list Bollywood productions. Whether it is Warner Bros, Fox Studios or Disney, all major Hollywood production companies are backing famous Indian film production houses, in an attempt to get a stake into its profits. Here are a few Hollywood Studios that have tied up with Bollywood to create magic on the silver screen.

Walt Disney Pictures: Walt Disney Pictures launched its Bollywood wing called The Walt Disney Company India in 2008 in association with the Yash Raj Films and produced the animated, National Award-winning film ‘Roadside Romeo’ produced by Aditya Chopra. After the success of the under-rated animation film, Walt Disney Pictures also collaborated with production houses in Mumbai like UTV Motion Pictures to produce the Sonam Kapoor starrer ‘Khoobsoorat’, the Shahid Kapoor starrer ‘Haider’ and the Aamir Khan starrers ‘Dangal’ and ‘P.K’ among many other successful films.

Warner Bros: Acclaimed Hollywood studio Warner Bros ventured into India in 2008 with the forgotten film ‘Saas Bahu Aur Sensex’ starring Tanushree Dutta. The production house that gave the world, films like ‘Harry Potter’, ‘Inception’ and ‘Wonder Woman’ also produced the acclaimed Bollywood film ‘Phas Gaye Re Obama’. Other hits include the Ajay Devgan- Konkana Sen Sharma — Paresh Rawal starrer ‘Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge’ and the Akshay Kumar- Deeepika Padukone starrer ‘Chandni Chowk to China’.

Fox Star Studios: In 2008, the acclaimed Hollywood Production house 20th Century Fox ventured into India with the sleeper hit ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ helmed by English producer and director Danny Boyle. The success of the film, shot in India, led to the production company establishing the Fox Star Studio that tied up with many other companies like Dharma Productions to produce films like ‘My Name is Khan’, ‘Shaandaar’ and ‘Brothers’. Fox Star Studio has also distributed movies like ‘Bang Bang’, ‘Neerja’ and ‘M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story’.

Sony Pictures: Japanese and Hollywood giant Sony Pictures entered the Indian entertainment market over two decades ago when the Sony Entertainment Channel was launched. The company then launched several auxiliary channels in music, comedy, sports, etc. before they ventured into film production with the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film ‘Saawariya’ in 2008, which marked the debut of actors Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor. Sony Pictures also backed Dharma Productions’ ‘We are Family’, and MSM Motion Pictures’ ‘Piku’ among other films.
