Vegan Malta #1

It is high time to share my vegan experiences in the Maltese islands. I spent three weeks in Sliema, a tourist city near Valletta, taking an English course. The lifestyle was quite hectic because I had a lot of excursions every day after school, which did not allow me to visit as much vegan restaurants as I had previously planned. Anyway, I had the oportunity to go to one of the nicest ones ever. I will save the best for last and talk about it later on.

The first café/restaurant that I visited was Crudo. It is located in Balluta Bay, just right at the square, on one the sides, where you can see several establishments similar to this one. My friend and I were looking for a place to have breakfast and this seemed to be the perfect.

As you can see in the picture, Crudo is small but very cosy. However, it has a terrace available where it is possible to enjoy your meal pleasantly. The breakfast that I had was something like a menu: I remember that it was a cappuccino and a brownie and costed 3 or 4€, 5€ at the most. The coffee’s taste was good and the brownie’s even better.

Next day I went again but this time I had dinner. And here it comes a funny anecdote, or not so funny for my friend and I. It was 22:30 and we left our apartment, all dressed up and ready to party, but not without having dinner before. We did not think about the time actually and that was the problem. Every kitchen was closed and the only one which remained open was Crudo’s. Bingo!- I thought- This nice restaurant is open, lucky us. I ordered a sandwich with avocado, tomato and rocket salad. If you are a salad fan, this is your spot. I remember having seen some tasty vegan salads but personally they are extremely expensive for me. I was surprised because the sandwich seemed so simple that I did not expect such good taste. Sometimes the simplest things are the best ones, much more if you are as hungry as I was that evening. The price was a bit high, about 7€, but I had to eat something so…

Now it is time to talk about the staff. They are simply lovely! There is a Latin American waitress who was very kind to us and even a bit more when she realised that we were Spaniards. It is always nice to find people who talk the same language as you. There is also a man who prepared my sandwich and paid great attention to my demands, which were almost none, due to my hunger.
