Content marketing is one of the crucial aspects of every business today and also the most in-demand and highest-paying jobs.

If only I had known that just writing blogs wouldn't help me but I also need to excel one more aspect and turn it into my USP a few years ago, I would have been doing a little better today.

Are you too not aware?

I have talked about content writing before, but never about copywriting.

So let me explain.

What is content writing?

Content writing is what I have been doing for years and if you’ve read my work, that’s exactly content writing.

Providing valuable information to the audience, to entertain, or to inform. Content writing builds authority, and trust. Attracts and retains the audience in the long run.

Types of Content Writing:

Blog Writing: The kind of content that I usually write comes under blog writing. It is to inform, entertain, and keep the audience engaged through story-telling or conversational writing.

This is done on a blogging website.

Article Writing: Almost similar to blog writing, but it is rather based on facts, opinions, featured stories, or how-to’s.

Basically whatever you read on print publications or different other websites are article writing.

Social Media Content: If you have noticed some brands caption they are too long. The content you see on LinkedIn, Twitter, and other social media platforms all come under content writing.

Script Writing: These days brands are on the lookout for content writers who can write engaging scripts for their YouTube and Podcasts.

These writers are also high in demand and highly paid if they know how to craft scripts that will keep their audience engaged and entertained or informed.

Infographics, press releases, and email writing are also some more forms of content writing.

What is Copywriting?

Have you ever read those catchy headlines on your emails from different brands like Myntra, Zomato, or those advertisements?

Do you remember those funny, silly jingles from old advertisements that used to stick with you for a long time?

To give you some examples:

Thumbs UP: “Ajj kuch toofani karte hai?”

The Nirma (detergent) song?

That is all copywriting which is precisely today called an ad-copy.

So basically, copywriting is to persuade your audience to take some action. Either click on that read more button, subscribe button or buy now option.

Copywriting is using words to persuade the reader make them realise the benefits and how it will benefit them. In short, copy writing is to make a sale.

Types of Copy Writing:

Advertising Copy: I have already explained this, all the one-liners you see around on billboards, prints, TV advertisements jingles, etc, all come under advertising copy.

Sales Copy: Content written to persuade the audience to buy something is a sales copy. All the Instagram advertisements you see that make sure you click through to visit their website are all using sales copy tricks.

Product Description: Have you ever read a shampoo bottle from word to word? Do you go grocery shopping and read those ingredients and everything you want to know about the product? All of that is written by a copywriter who is good with product descriptions.

Email Copy: If you happen to order a lot from online stores and have their emails coming to you but you have never opened them? Well, someday make it a point to read and that’s how you will know what an email copy is.

At the end, they will have a link to take you to their websites to buy something.

Content Marketing Copy: Now this is what I explained for content writing as in blogs and articles as well. Perhaps, the focus here is to invoke an awareness, engage them until the end, and then make them take action.

It could be a blog post about some new services or products the brand is introducing, they make you aware, share its features or how will it benefit you and at the end will have some CTA, (call to action).

There are more types of copy writing and much similar to content writing. But the whole purpose of copy in simple terms is to make a sale.

So now that you know the difference between copy and content writing, you might want to know which is more beneficial to start your career with.

Well, that is something for you to decide. But I would like to give you some more in-depth information before we end for the day.

In both forms of writing knowing how to use S.E.O ( Search Engine Optimization) is the most important aspect today.

And if you have mastered S.E.O and know how to write articles that will help rank at the top of the Google search engine then you will be paid more for your skill.

However, it's not that easy, and all three be it Copywriting, content writing, and learning S.E.O. all need constant practice to master them.

If you choose copywriting — it is one of the highest-paid and in-demand jobs today however, you need to have that fine craft within you to take the lead.

And if you combine, and learn all three skills— Content writing, copywriting, and S.E.O. you will excel as a content marketer.
