UI Challenge 2: Wireframing backwards | Airbnb

For the second challenge in the UI course we have to pick one app and basically Wireframe it backwards. For this challenge I chose to work with the Airbnb app, because I absolutely love their design and apps like that made me want to start designing myself. It was a really interesting challenge, because although the first thing said in the description was ‘keep it simple’ — it was actually pretty hard to keep it simple. As a new designer you tend to want to make things pretty and to overthink things. The first two wireframes took way too much time to make for that same reason.

Above you can see the pages next to each other and below you can get a better view of the wireframes I made.

I’ve learned that (and am obviously still learning) to keep things simple. As I said before the first two sketches took me too long, but after the first two I learned how to do it quickly and I guess that was the whole point. During this challenge I also learned that Airbnb actually shares a lot about their design process on their website, which is really interesting. Beneath I’ll add a talk of Benjamin Wilkins, Design Technologist at Airbnb, which was really useful for me.
