I’ve been doing 10,000 steps every day for a year now. During the summer when the weather is warmer & the days are longer I often do more. Yesterday I did 20k; the day before I did 18k. I slacked off today at a measly 14k :)

For an average-height woman like me it takes about fifty minutes to do 10k steps, although I tend to do them in two pieces: Two-thirds at lunch and one third or more after work.

I often wear tunes too although a few weeks ago I decided to be mindful while walking. I didn’t walk as fast when I didn’t want to, I enjoyed the warm sunny day, I chilled out on a street bench in the shade for awhile, and I talked to a good-looking busker I’ve seen for *years* but never spoke to him before. He was flirting with me. It was nice!

I found I felt more connected to my neighbourhood too, noticing the peeps on the street more and feeling more of a human connection. I still sometimes wear my tunes, but other days I bring them along in case I want them, but I usually don’t.

And oh, I lost 25 pounds. Well, I also changed my eating habits and cut out a lot of the crap. And I’ve kept it off. For the first time since I was in my thirties I’m not overweight.
