This is a fantastic idea. Even though as a future DO this might give me some competition it’s a great idea. I think one of the biggest problems in American medicine at the moment is the lack of competition, especially in the primary care areas where there’s a massive shortage. Hence you get doctors who frankly suck at their jobs and don’t produce meaningful health benefits for their patients. If your patients have no other choice but to stick with you why bother to try to do your job well. Fee for service also means that no matter how crappy you are and how bad your patient outcomes are you still get paid. Next up it’s time to blow up our health insurance model….
