Even if we take issues of sexuality out of the mix, people who are over 55 are going to have a harder time getting a job. At least in California I speculate that as you approach 60 getting a job becomes very difficult, regardless of what you have done and can do.
I don’t know whether age discrimination or anti-gay discrimination is a bigger force, but I’m sure that together they don’t add up to anything good.
The amount of discrimination that someone may experience may depend on where they are. My perception is that if you’re in the San Francisco Bay Area anti-gay discrimination is less of an issue. But in Bay Area technology companies age discrimination is practiced out in the open, without apology.
I’m a heterosexual man, so I will freely admit that my perception and reality may be different.
Personally, I keep my authentic self on nderground where I can share my life with my close friends, not with the Internet and people at work.
