I more optimistic about the chances for nuclear fusion, if we put the resources into it. I believe that the only reason we have not made more progress is that only modest resources have been dedicated to the problem, compared to the size of the challenge.
But I agree, it’s hard to get society to dedicate resources to a problem that will only strongly manifest itself decades into the future. So I’m not too optimistic either. This is why I found Gibson’s book The Peripheral scary. There may be a large scale human die-off lurking in the future.
Good luck with that climate change stuff, young people. Unfortunately it’s unlikely that I’ll be there with you in 2050.
