Mike, thank you for all of the work that you have done to make D3 available to the world. D3 is a great accomplishment.
I hope that it does not seem ungrateful to make a D3 request…. Could you consider expanding D3’s timeseries support?
I use the R mathematics language/environment. One of the things that I like about R is the ease with which timeseries plots can be generated. In R you create a timeseries object and call the plot function. R takes care of scaling the plot axis. If you want to get fancier you can define line type, colors and plot labels.
This summer (May/June 2015) I was hoping to use D3 to create timeseries plots. Perhaps I was doing something wrong, but I found it much more difficult to create a timeseries plot in D3 than R. There are a couple of JavaScript timeseries packages that used D3 features, but D3 itself did not seem naturally suited for timeseries plots.
Timeseries plots are core work in science, finance and other areas. So I think that timeseries might become a core D3 feature.
