No, professionals don’t crave failure. Failure is really unpleasant. No one succeeds at everything, all the time. So some amount of a failure is inevitable. But it’s not fun.
My objective is to keep my failures down to a modest level and have greater successes.
Large failures, regardless of what you learn from them, are very painful. For some people, the pain of failure can be life destroying. I would like to avoid this level of pain.
The example with Edison is misplaced as well. Research and experiments, by their very nature, contain many negative results. This is not failure. When you do research, you don’t know the answer when you start.
Failure is pursuing something for a long time only to find that you’re completely wrong and you’ve wasted your time.
