How I'm unlearning high school: if x equals y then can we have cake?
Alex von Ellensworth

One of the few things that I learned in High School that has been useful over my lifetime was algebra. Often when you use calculus, what’s left is algebra, which you use to simplify what is left over.

Of course I have to confess that in graduate school I had a subscription to Wolfram Alpha, which is a great way to grind through the algebra to arrive at a simplified form. But you still have to know algebra to understand what the software did.
