The Republican tax plan (their, so called, tax overhaul) is predicated on repealing the Affordable Care Act. By “repeal” the Republicans mean “get rid of as much of the Affordable Care Act as possible”. The reduction in spending will then be passed on as a tax cut which will benefit high income tax payers more than those in other tax brackets.

Health insurance is a huge issue for anyone who is self-employed or is running a small business. The Affordable Care Act is intended to provide coverage for those who are not covered by large corporate plans. Again, the freelance self-employed people and small businesses.

The Republican “tax overhaul” will not happen unless they can gut heath care coverage. Without arguing any of the merits of the as yet unseen Republican tax overhaul, its clear than it will be very bad for self-employed people who will face much higher health care costs in may states.

The Affordable Care Act is far from perfect and in some states, especially those controlled by Republicans, it has not worked as intended. What the Affordable Care Act held out is the hope that it could be refined over time. This would not only provide health care coverage for more people, but there was a structure in place to get health care costs under control.

I see how people who vote for politicians that advocate for universal health care can feel really good about the ways they are trying to change an unfair system, but perhaps if more people helped those around them with medical bills, or became physicians who saw people without insurance “pro-bono,” or opened up businesses and provided their employees with generous health coverage, that could help in just as real a way.

I’m not interested in arguing with someone who appears to be a member of the Christian Right and who needs to dramatically improve the clarity of their writing. So I’ll leave my post as written. Respond as you like, but this is all I will have to say here.
