The United States and the UK has had a long love affair and fascination with Italy. As a result, there are many books on Italy and travel in Italy.
Check out Tobias Jones’ book “The Dark Heart of Italy” for a liberal view of Berlusconi. Things worked out better than Jones feared.
Another view of Italy from an American is “Italian Neighbors” by Tim Parks. Or for a view of the Italian legal system from the US point of view, check out “The Monster of Florence” by Douglas Preston.
There’s “Excellent Cadavers” by Alexander Stille (who wrote “The Sack of Rome”) about the Mafia and the anti-Mafia struggle in Southern Italy.
There is also a vast literature on Italian history, travel, art and food. In fact, its probably safe to say that in english Italy is one of the most written about countries in the world.
