What John Biggs is saying, at least as I read it, is that there are real problems and grievances that motivate people to vote for Trump. Right now it looks like Trump will lose (thank God). But these issues remain. If they are not dealt with, we will continue to have the horrible toxic politics we have now.
In the last debate Trump threatened to jail Hillary Clinton if he was elected. This starkly showed who Trump is. He is a fascist.
In this election we not only learned that “it can happen here”, but that the bullet narrowly missed us. One reason that the bullet missed us is that Trump is so unbalanced. A smoother, less psycho, version of Trump might have won the election. If we do not address the real problems that motivate some of Trump’s supporters, this could happen in the future.
The problems that animate some of Trump’s supporters exist throughout the West. They are driving the rise of right wing parties in the Netherlands, Italy, France and the UK. Sticking our collective heads in the sand will not make these problems go away.
