Dev School Graduation
The third class of The Dev school graduated on Saturday, 11th October 2014, after 10 weeks of training on Android development.
This class was supported by the UNESCO YouthMobile initiative and focussed on the learners building solutions for culture, education, water, unemployment and sustainable development.
During the graduation, one team presented their project — Desturi, an Android application that allows the user to search through the different communities in Kenya and learn their different cultural practices. The aim of the app is to promote peace though acceptance of different cultures.
The Dev School has been actively encouraging girl’s participation in our programs and we happy that the third class had 37.5% female participation. However, this is no where close the diversity we are aiming for in our classes.
`We plan to work with the female students to build a community of women developers in Nairobi, and encourage collaboration between learning and experienced women in tech.
We are excited to see this group of students solve local problems using technology and support them as they get started in their careers!
