No one’s business but the Turks

So, through some strange methods, I managed to subscribe to Adobe CC All Apps!

Self-sufficiency, here we come!

Rather than having to ask-a-friend to help with screencasts and the like, with some persistence we’ll get back up-to-snuff

As a single Dad, will I find the time?

Well, one can only dream, and be patient and persistent in one’s direction! Anyway, what was I saying again??

Oh yes, Adobe!

Well, my god. I can’t say I was particularly impressed when installing Photoshop! After OpenAI’s recent release of Sora, the output from the generative AI tools inside PhotoShop looks downright hokey!

The thing that struck me the most about Adobe’s seeming slide into mediocrity was the tutorial implementation.

Flighty little popups

There are these little popups drawn over the app next to various UI elements. When you move the mouse over that little blue popup, it actually disappears. One wonders why they didn’t just put the “next” button inside the popup?? I guess the reason is that the popup could get in the way at times, but that does seem …

Anyway, next!

Note that it says “Click Next to continue”

Click next to continue. Ok, where’s this “Next” ? Oh, a whole other popup, outside of the main app window.

Well, there’s that famous “Next” to click!

Well there’s that famous “Next” button, waiting for a click!

What do I click!??!

Lol, yep, seriously, in the initial states they expect you to find it without the popup, but then later, thankfully they rescue you, and help you click Next. “Where would I be without you”

Photoshop, once a paragon of magic and fakery

2024 and they can’t detect when it’s roughly in the right position?

2024, in the age of AI magic, and they can’t detect when it’s roughly in the right position?!?

Interestingly, there ARE some points in the tutorial where it automatically transitions you to the next state upon completion of some instructed action. The inconsistency in this matter does not give a good impression.

Go on, do it!

Go on, do it! Select it! I dare you!

Seriously???

“As you’re working on this tutorial, if you’re asked to select a tool that is already selected, click another tool and then click back on the desired tool”

Incredulity lingers

They can’t detect that you already have it selected, and adapt it?!
2024, and billions of $$$$ ??

Feeling better!

In any case, it did make me feel a bit better about the UX in Contextual, in particular the tutorial, which seems NOT THAT BAD after all (in comparison)

But ultimately stuck …

Actually, I’ve tried to finish this tutorial about 3 times now, but it seem to get into some wonky state.

UGH, what’s next??!? I’m in Limbo!

Persistence strikes back

“Surely you can do it, you’re being unfair to PS”

Well, you may have a point ;)

We got there in the end

What was it you ask!?

I must not have been selecting the correct “Healing Brush” tool!
Moral of the story!? It’s super easy to criticise and get annoyed with something. Maybe it’s worth going the extra mile to point things out?

What’s this got to do with Turks, anyway?

Wow, someone/anyone actually read this, and quite an alert little bugger at that!?

Well that’s a secret ;)
It’s no one’s business but the Turks!
