The dominant narrative today is that we are inherently bad for the Earth. While we certainly are the cause of world wide environmental catastrophes, we are also the solution.

With real solutions in mind, Regenerative Resources Co (RRC), Chainlink, Regen Network, Elevenyellow, and artists from AVATAR, Star Wars, and Marvel are collaborating to create dynamic NFTs to seed and grow 100 million mangroves across RRC’s current projects. It’s estimated that these NFT’s will emit 120 tons of carbon, but if successful will lead to approximately 20 million tons of carbon sequestered–a ratio of 166,000:1 of carbon sequestered to carbon emitted. Regen Network will independently verify that these NFT’s are made carbon neutral through RRC’s projects.

In addition to the carbon, this effort will create jobs for thousands of people in fishing villages & coastal communities, provide habitat for millions of fish and birds, improve ocean health & biodiversity, cool local climates by an estimated 2 degrees C, and potentially provide a bulwark against sea level rise at the local level.

The NFTs are short films being gifted by artists Saiful Haque, Filippo Nesci, and Jan Urschel. Each is designing a dynamic NFT, starting with one single static frame, mimicking the common NFT jpeg images we see today. Each time one of these NFTs is resold, it will incorporate more frames, until the films are revealed and Regenerative Resources has received enough funding to grow 100 million mangroves.

The films will be preceded by 5 posters for each artist, also minted as single-frame NFT’s.

Truly dynamic NFTs are not easy to create. Often referred to as “the oracle problem”, blockchain networks are limited because they are disconnected from the off-chain world. This means NFTs cannot interact with data that is not internally generated on the very blockchain they are built on.

That’s where Chainlink Data Feeds become critical to this project. Through Chainlink, any external data can be accessed on the blockchain via smart contracts, such as weather data, sports outcomes, even satellites. In fact, Chainlink has already helped to secure over $80B in total value locked (TVL) for leading DeFi, NFT, and Gaming blockchain applications and offers best-in-class tools for creators looking to launch true dynamic NFTs.

“We see in this project an opportunity to shift the narrative around web3 and create massive environmental and social impact. Our first set of NFTs is essentially a seed that will help fund the tree planting in our current projects. Beyond that we intend to create a voluntary market for biodiversity credits, by tying in satellite, soil, and biodiversity data to future NFTs. That data collection will be facilitated through a collaboration with Regen Network, Cornell’s Bioacoustics Lab and Naturemetrics. Chainlink’s role in connecting real-world data to the blockchain will enable our development of new and creative products, all of which will support our coastal regeneration systems.” — Neal Spackman, CEO of Regenerative Resources.

About Chainlink

Chainlink is the industry standard for building, accessing, and selling oracle services needed to power hybrid smart contracts on any blockchain. Chainlink oracle networks provide smart contracts with a way to reliably connect to any external API and leverage secure off-chain computations for enabling feature-rich applications. Chainlink currently secures tens of billions of dollars across DeFi, insurance, gaming, and other major industries, and offers global enterprises and leading data providers a universal gateway to all blockchains.
